3. Strange Day In Mexico
Last we left our hero he was standing all alone at an ATM machine
They were both very out of order
Quite predictably that picture that he’d painted of the morning
It had begun to crack and peel, a photo finish of surreal
Is it true that we are nothing more than boxes sitting in the basement,
and the more that we keep looking, the harder we are to find?
The record keeps on spinning while the volume’s way down
The needle takes its time falling in and out of line,
Well it’s been a Strange day in Mexico.
Are we that dull that all the things that we used to do are never what we wanted to but ces la vie,
and so it all goes until we think something is missing again
Our hero looks out of the bubble and he pours himself another
and the wonder starts to fade away from the outside looking in, from the outside look in
We have a tendency to hide behind obscurity, but everyone’s so beautiful
Why do we hide at all?
When you get to where you need to be won’t you drop me a line
If the music’s out of tune, at least I hope you like the view

There are millions in this city who are just like me

6. Free Ride In A Cop Car
The perfect heist, the perfect getaway
And it’s our proverbial payday in a loser sort of way
Take the keys, take the back roads,
And our hair is looking good for a couple of criminals
But it never goes as planned, you get run down by the man
And instead of beating Zelda or a hundred other games and pulling off the perfect scam

7. College Daze
Four a.m., drunk again, got a final in biology at 10
Stupid me, nothing’s free, this degree is taking an eternity
Test 1, test 2, didn’t really study now my GPA is screwed
But I’m the king, of other things, just go and get me loaded and I’ll take one for the team
Cuz when we’re pounding Jaeger schmee schmees, I’m the one who keeps ‘em down
Don’t bother saving face cuz the loser always pays
and I’ll be your drunken monkey clown
College daze, trying to make it through my college daze
I’ll return to grace, when I make it through, once I make it through my college daze.
It’s four, I’m out the door,
You can bet within the hour I’ll be passed out on the floor
Bottles here, bottles there,
A semester long collection and you know we’ve drank our share
Cuz when we’re bonging Jaeger schmee schmees
I’m the fool who throws ‘em down
No matter what the stakes, I’ll do anything it takes

8. Same Mistake
Locked out again, here I am, standing on the front porch,

It’s times like these I get to thinking to myself even though I’m not the brightest
I still shine brightly if to no one but myself
You could say that I am bored, but I have got imagination
It’s the only thing that gets me through each day
And I try to make the best of every awkward situation
I hope I learn so I don’t make the same mistake.
What a trip that this has been, what a way to start the day
I’d say excitement come this evening may very well be what I need
The predicament I’ve fallen in shows a clear misunderstanding of the way
The real world operates, I hate that I don’t think ahead
You could say that I am bored, but I have got imagination

My wishful thinking says, “I won’t do this again.”
But in the meantime I’ll just bide my time
And make due with where I am

My eyes are burning from this smoky haze, and I’m needing just a little midnight air.
There’s a café around the corner, and I’m pretty sure it’s open all night long
We can grab a cup of coffee sit and talk about the weather, see if something’s going on.

I just get the feeling I should really guard what I say
This might not turn out good for me
We see it in the movies, it captivates us every time
I wish I could remember one helpful line

But once we’ve said it there’s no turning back
This is something normal people just don’t do
So think it through, before you do what you think you gotta do
This is quite the situation, I can’t say that I like it much
There are lots of places that I’d rather be
I didn’t see it coming, the forest for the trees
But it looks like you’re the one who appears to have the drop on me
Don’t go saying that it’s my fault, there’s only one in control
You know you’ve spent more time on this than me
You’re wearing your invisible armor, it makes it hard for me to see
When this is over don’t expect my sympathy
11. Abercrombie Jeans
Well I know this gal from California, she’s a pretty as a pretty gal can be
And I know that gal knows I like her, and I’m pretty sure that pretty gal likes me
Everything’s fine except for one problem, she wants a big, expensive diamond on her hand
And there aint no way that I can settle down, cuz I’m playing in a rock and roll band
The rock star life or a young a pretty wife
The question is, which one will it be?
All the groupies in their teens with their Abercrombie Jeans
Enough to drive a man like me crazy
Well I like my life as a bachelor, I’ve got a dirty house and my cooking tastes like scat
I go out when I can, I always dress just like a man,
I don’t go nowhere without my trusty baseball cap
Now that pretty gal wants to take me shopping, buy me clothes and shoes that look real nice
But I don’t want to be bossed around, I just want to paint the town,
Not paint my hair to look like Vanilla Ice
Well I like that gal from California, but I’m afraid that I’ll just have to move along
Live my life up on the stage, play guitar like Jimmy Page
Taking candy from a stranger is just plain wrong.
